Am 22.05 um 16 Uhr c.t. spricht Aleksandra Kubiak-Schneider (University of Wrocław) in der Forschungsstelle Asia Minor zum Thema „Epigraphic Culture of Commagene“:

The principal aim of the project „Epigraphic Cultures of the Eastern Mediterranean in Antiquity” lead by K. Nawotka (Wrocław) is to identify the prevailing trends in chronological distribution of ancient inscriptions. Within this project is studied the epigraphic culture of Commagene which is counted among the cities and provinces of Asia Minor. For this stage of research on the epigraphic culture, 485 inscriptions were collected from different corpora and publications. This talk will present the chronological diffusion of the epigraphic material as well as the diversification of types of inscriptions. This presentation will focus on the evolution and peculiarities of the epigraphic culture presented by the published material. By the means of the quantitative and qualitative methods applied to the epigraphic data, it will give a preliminary output to understand the development of a habit of setting the inscriptions in the public spaces, languages of epigraphic expressions and reflection of political systems as well as religions.
