Hi! In this article, we’re going to talk about one of the things that excites us the most in the field: the mosaic floors! During our excavation this year, we found a mosaic floor where small pieces of coloured stone came together and turned into an eye-catching form. We will explain this process in order for you to better understand it. The first hint  for us, is when loads of mosaic fragments are found among the finds from the soil digged up by the workers. It says: Attention, here is\/was a mosaic floor<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Doliche\u2019nin mozaikleri yakla\u015f\u0131k olarak M.S 400\u2019lere tarihlenir ve genellikle geometrik desenlere sahiptir. Bazen de y\u00f6reye ait bitki ve hayvan motifleri bulunur.  Antik Doliche anla\u015f\u0131lan halk\u0131 bize s\u00fcrpriz yapmak istemi\u015f \u00e7\u00fcnk\u00fc farkl\u0131 katmanlarda birbirinden farkl\u0131 mozaik tabanlar buluyoruz. Bir di\u011fer s\u00fcrpriz ise bu tabandaki mozaiklerin renklerinin ve tessera boyutlar\u0131n\u0131n birbirinden farkl\u0131 olmas\u0131. Kim bilir hangi eller taraf\u0131ndan i\u015flendi!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Doliche’s mosaics are dated approximately to 400 AD and generally have geometric patterns. Sometimes there are local plant and animal motifs. The ancient people of Doliche apparently wanted to surprise us, because we find different mosaic floors in different layers. Another surprise is that the colours of the mosaics  and the sizes of the tessera are different on each floor we find. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Haydi bakal\u0131m bu mozaikler bizimle nas\u0131l tan\u0131\u015f\u0131yor ondan bahsedelim. \u00d6ncelikle ekibimizin direktifleri do\u011frultusunda i\u015f\u00e7iler \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131na ba\u015flar. Onlar\u0131n g\u00f6revlerinden biri de her buluntuyu kategorilerine g\u00f6re biriktirmektir. \u00d6rne\u011fin ; tessera kovas\u0131, seramik kovas\u0131, kemik kovas\u0131 gibi. Mozaik taban\u0131n ne zaman kar\u015f\u0131m\u0131za \u00e7\u0131kaca\u011f\u0131n\u0131 bilmedi\u011fimiz i\u00e7in dikkatli olmak \u015fart\u0131 ile kazmaya devam ederler.  \u00c7\u00fcnk\u00fc 15-20 cm derinlikte de bulabiliriz 1 metre ya da daha fazlas\u0131nda da. Bu kazd\u0131\u011f\u0131m\u0131z alan\u0131n topografyas\u0131na, mimari yap\u0131n\u0131n \u00f6zelliklerine g\u00f6re de\u011fi\u015fir. Yukar\u0131da bahsetti\u011fimiz gibi tessera buluntular\u0131; bize yak\u0131nlarda mozaik oldu\u011funun habercisi olabilir. E\u011fer \u00f6yleyse bunu teyit etmek i\u00e7in k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck bir alanda k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck bir mala ile k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck hareketlerle mozaik taban kontrol\u00fc yapar\u0131z. Ve i\u015fte 1600 y\u0131l sonra tan\u0131\u015ft\u0131k! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let’s talk about how these mosaics meet us. First of all, workers start to work in line with the directives of our team. One of their tasks is to collect each find by category. For example: such as tessera bucket, ceramic bucket and a bone bucket. Since we do not know when the mosaic floor will appear, they continue to dig on condition of being careful. Because we can find it at 15-20 cm depth or 1 meter or more. This depends on the topography of the area we excavate and the characteristics of the architectural structure. As we mentioned above, the tessera finds may be understood as a harbinger of the nearby mosaic. If so, we check for the mosaic floor in a small area with a trowel to confirm this. And here we met 1600 years later!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
